Bishangarh is a very pretty and sleepy rural village in the region of the Aravallis, in the heart of Rajasthan, located conveniently only a one hour drive from Jaipur, and three hours from Delhi.
With quaint havelis and artisans dotted throughout the village, Bishangarh is rural Rajasthan at its finest, with great opportunities to explore the many different aspects of village life, without the hustle and bustle of the crowds and tourists of larger cities and towns. The main attraction of Bishangarh is the ancient fortress, which is forever imposing over the village, and is a vital part of the village views. The history of the fort dates back 230 years, and was built by members of the Shahpura-Shekhawat clan, owing allegiance to the Amer (or Jaipur) royals. It was built as a genuine fort, and whilst there were no bloody battles fought here, the fort did fall into ruin over the centuries. This over 200-year-old fort has recently been restored to its former glory, and transformed into the much anticipated luxury Alila Fort Bishangarh hotel.
